no but realtalk people have got to stop spreading the idea that anglophones pronounce words the way we do because we’re just too stupid/uncultured to know any better (i realize that’s not what that post was about, it just reminded me of this issue)
every time a word is borrowed from one language into another the pronunciation changes to fit with the phones that language has so that just talking isn’t something that requires extensive practice on the part of the speakers (and this is true for EVERY language, not just english)
in words that have been in the language a long time (knife, table, them) the english pronunciation is seen as “acceptable”, but in more recent loans (champagne, poutine, schadenfreude) people get off on telling people that they’re saying the words “wrong”
the naturalized pronunciation of a foreign word in english is just as correct as the original pronunciation of that word in its original language
giants fans are really saying they’re an underdog team when they’re playing the freaking royals who haven’t been to the playoffs/World Series in 29 years and the Giants have been to 3 ws in 5 years like this is so tiring I hate giants fans……
-I can’t eat squid, the texture just makes me want to vomit.
-Current favorite TV show is The Mindy Project and probably the fact that I only like Peter in his friendship with Mindy and so I don’t care about his storyline with Jeremy. Although the Shonda episode made me laugh.
- He’s the one person on the team who walks out to country music and not to something I would have in my library.
WHEN SHE SWITCHED TO THE DARK RED ROMEO AND JULIET COSTUME AND EVERYONE PRAISED IT, AND I HATED IT AND I ALREADY KNEW IT WAS THE BEGINNING OF THE END (IT WAS SUCH A SASHA DRESS, OKAY.) AND THE WORST PART IS THAT I WAS RIGHT.
