Mirai Nagasu - 2011 US Figure Skating Championships - Part 1 (x)
i’m just going to use this post to go all feelings about whatever shit people are probably talking about mirai after that teleconference.

1) Frankly, none of Mirai’s international personal bests included a 3-3 and I don’t think it’s most important thing, short-term. (Even her Worlds SP, where she attempted it. wasn’t the downgraded 3T worth less to her than a clean 2T.) I would like for her to add one, because I think she’s skating too safe considering her abilities. I also wish she’d do her combinations with loops. But if we’re looking as far as Nationals/maybe 4CC or Worlds, her real issues lie in rotating either jump in her 3/2 and her solo jumps. Alissa, more or less the same. Getting those solo jumps around would score huge internationally, 3-3 or not. Their overall packages are up there among the top.
2) As far as *~*artistry*~* goes, I do think a certain level of understanding her music, commitment, and command are the necessary next step for her, especially after the Cup of China free. People tend to overlook her base value issues when she stops overthinking it, judging from her best comps.
3) Of course Mirai would turn watching Food Network into a serious analysis of skating mentality/inspiration riddled with “like.”
4) The only things I reaaaally found alarming were the 4+ rinks comments and about never being truly ready for any competition.
