In honor of a very special competition whose practices begin tomorrow:
If you were dedicated enough to watch 2011’s Four Continents coverage in the wee hours of the morning (or, whenever, for non-North Americans) via wonky Chinese/Taiwanese livestream, you may be familiar with this number. For one strange, sleep-deprived week in February, references to it essentially served as fandom shorthand. It’s a little tune I like to call Taipei Love Theme. Or “Baby (Never Gonna Let You Go).” Or anything, really; the only hits a search for any of this song’s lyrics ever did return were links back to figure skating discussion boards. It’s kind of disturbing to me that this network managed to locate a seemingly 45-year-old song and plug up every stopgap of coverage with it, all without its leaving a trace of any existence outside this strange little skating vortex. To be honest, I’m still unsure whether or not 2011 4CC ever existed and wasn’t just some fevered insomniac delusion.
Oh Colorado Springs, will you, too, reel me out? And, more importantly, reel me in?
